City & Guilds 6218 Diploma in Construction

If you are just starting out on your career, and have no prior knowledge or experience in construction, then the City & Guilds Diploma in Construction Skills is a good place to start. It will provide basic training in construction skills for those seeking employment in the construction industry.

The Diploma has been specifically designed for young people with no previous experience or knowledge of craft skills. You should however be interested in all construction craft occupations such as plumbing, carpentry, painting and decorating and plastering.

To gain the qualification, you will need to complete the following 8 units:

  • Fixing skirting to a timber background
  • Applying emulsion to wall by roller
  • Repairing a patch in a plastered wall
  • Screeding a sand and cement floor
  • Introduction to fixing floor and skirting tiles
  • Working with non-manipulative compression fittings
  • Construct half brick wall and stretcher bond
  • Construct one brick wall in english bond

This qualification is a taught within our centre workshops. You will undertake practical activities to support your understanding and all units and are assessed via practical assignments. The underpinning knowledge shown in each unit covers necessary basic health and safety and good working practices, this is assessed by an additional multiple choice question test.

The guided learning hours to complete and achieve this qualification is 300 hours which can be delivered on a full or part-time basis.

This qualification provides knowledge and/or practical skills related to NVQs. On completion of the qualification learners may progress to an apprenticeship in construction.
