Bricklaying Apprenticeship

Train4All working in conjunction with Somerset Skills and Learning, Strode College, Paragon and City & Guilds are pleased to be able to offer a Brick Apprenticeship for young people aged 16-25 years who are employed within industry. In partnership with employers, we aim to ensure that young people undertake quality training both in the workplace and at our local training centres in Chard, Glastonbury and Yeovil.

There are two funded training programmes:

Level 2 Apprenticeship

This two-year programe will lead to an NVQ Level 2 in Bricklaying, a City and Guilds Diploma and Key/Functional Skills. Typical units studied are:

  • Safe working practices in construction
  • Construction methods and technology
  • Interpret drawings
  • Set out thin masonry structures
  • Thin joint masonry and masonry cladding
  • Build solid walling, isolated and attached piers
  • Build cavity walling

Level 3 Apprenticeship

This one-year programme includes the NVQ Level 3 in Bricklaying, a CIty & Guilds Diploma and Key/Functional Skills. Once achieved you may wish to progress to a Level 4 Site Management Qualification. Typical units studied are:

  • Constructing brick walls using various bonding techniques
  • Constructing cavity walls in brickwork/blockwork
  • Complex brickwork including inspection chamber construction/drainage
  • Concrete work
  • Health and safety

Both programmes will be attended via day-release to the training centre where theory and practical skills will be taught by our qualified teaching staff, all of which are still working within industry. The remainder of your week will be with your employer gaining valuable work experience.
